Who do you typically work with?
We work with individuals and families who are interested in objective, transparent financial advice. Our clients are typically professionals who are looking to clarify and organize their finances and start planning for the future. We also specialize in working with individuals who have equity compensation awards such as RSUs, stock options, stock appreciation awards, and employee stock grants.
What do you charge for your services?
As a fee-only, fiduciary financial planning firm we don’t earn commissions, trailing fees or any other form of compensation for recommending specific investments or products. Our success is tied to the success of our clients and this means you can be sure we are working with your best interests in mind. Put simply, this means that we don't sell you financial products, we act in your best interest at all times, and our pricing is clear and easy to understand. Here is a link to our fee schedule.
What makes you qualified to be my financial advisor?
My passion for personal finance began at a young age. I grew up in a household with limited resources. I started working at the age of fourteen and through college, and then joined the military in the search for new opportunities. I know first hand how much effort it takes to build a career, save and invest, pay down debt, and make smart money choices. In honoring this belief, I view my role as a Financial Planner to be a steward and protector of my clients' wealth.
After graduating from the State University at Albany in 2005, I began my career as a junior enlisted member of the U.S. Air Force. I then became an Intelligence Officer, ultimately attaining the rank of Captain. Along the way, I was cited on multiple occasions for my commitment to excellence and outstanding service. As a member of the U.S Air Force, I volunteered to serve in Afghanistan in 2012. After my service, I choose to study Financial Planning, ultimately earning a Master's Degree in Financial Planning from Golden Gate University (located in San Francisco, California). As a testament to my dedication, I was awarded the 2017 graduating class outstanding student award.
Following my studies at Golden Gate University, I took a position as a Financial Planning Resident at Yeske Buie, a prestigious Financial Planning firm located in San Francisco, California. There, I was under the mentorship of Dr Dave Yeske and Elissa Buie, two of the most accomplished Financial Planners in the profession. During my time at Yeske Buie, I completed the requirements for the CFP® professional designation.
As a professional like you, I know how hard it is to juggle finances with all of life's other commitments. I know what it's like to feel overwhelmed by all the choices around money. I have spent thousands of hours studying and practicing Financial Planning skills to help others feel less overwhelmed by their finances.
I know that there are many choices to help you manage your finances, so why should you choose my company? Coupled with my knowledge, skills, and passion, I pledge to you that I will always put your interests first, be plain and honest in my dealings, and do the best I can to serve you at all times.
Can we meet virtually?
Yes! We can meet with you virtually using resources such as Zoom or Google, over the phone, or by any method of communication that works best for you.
Why did you name your firm Thirty Mile Financial?
The name "Thirty Mile" is a reference to a story in Buddhism about putting other people's interests above one's own. The story is that the Buddha, upon hearing about a young man in a village thirty miles away showing signs of the seeds of enlightenment, walked the distance without stopping. Upon reaching the village, the Buddha, exhausted, dirty, and hungry insisted that the young man, who had spent the entire day in the hot fields working, be bathed, fed, and comforted before he, himself, received comfort. The connection to financial planning is to affirm the role of the financial planner as a fiduciary whose responsibility is to always put the interest of their clients above their own.
